Jewelry and Jewelry Design

Department Head Message

Dear Students

Welcome to Altınbaş University Faculty of Applied Sciences Department of Jewelry and Jewelry Design.

The Turkish tradition of gold jewelry production dates back 5000 years, and all civilizations that have lived in Anatolia have created a variety of jewelry for religious and aesthetic purposes. Due to gold's ability to be used as jewelry, as a means of wealth accumulation and exchange, and as an input in many industrial sectors, this metal is of strategic importance in our country as well as in the global market.

The Turkish Jewelry Sector, which continues to grow steadily and continuously, has become one of the leading countries in this sector worldwide with the momentum it has shown in recent years.

With nearly 40 thousand enterprises providing employment opportunities for nearly 250 thousand people, the Turkish Jewelry Sector is positioned in an important place for the national economy in terms of providing high added value by processing imported gold, silver and precious stones.

In 2023, the jewelry sector exported 8,238,754 thousand US dollars and its share in global exports is 7 percent.

Our students of the Department of Jewelry and Jewelry Design participate in IJS Istanbul Jewelry Show, one of the five largest jewelry fairs in the world and Turkey's first and only specialized international jewelry fair, with the support of our University. They exhibit their portfolios at Designer Week.

They have won second and third place in design competitions organized in our country since 1999.

The Department of Jewelry and Jewelry Design is the only department in Istanbul that provides 4-year education among the departments in similar universities. In addition, the master's program for students who want to pursue an academic career is the only one among other universities.

In 2023, our Department of Jewelry and Jewelry Design received an accreditation certificate from ACQUIN, an international accreditation organization operating in Germany. Thus, the diplomas of our students are valid in all countries of the world.

Our students can work as designers and managers in jewelry businesses and workshops, as well as open businesses on their own behalf.

It is among our most important priorities to ensure that our dear students are raised as young people who respect nature and humanity, where they can take part in the national and international jewelry and design world of the future, where they can realize their original ideas with the education opportunities in universal norms provided by our University.
